Cobblers Cottage Available

Cobblers Cottage was built in about 1420 but it was not until April 2003 when Sara and Kevin started the ambitious project of restoring a derelict village cottage that a rare and historically important artisan’s hall house was uncovered. A historical survey commissioned by an eminent architectural historian is on view in the cottage.

Lovingly and meticulously restored using traditional materials and original techniques Cobblers Cottage transports you back to medieval England with out depriving you of modern comfort.

Nayland is an idyllic Suffolk village with a riverside pub, great restaurant, good village shops, beautiful countryside for walking and exploring and easy travel access.

Situated on Stoke Road, Cobblers Cottage has off road parking for one car.

You enter to be welcomed by a homely cottage kitchen with traditional flagstone floor and dining area for four. Fully equipped, the kitchen includes a large gas and electric range cooker, microwave and dishwasher.

Leading off from the kitchen is a large sunny lobby with a massive mullion window overlooking an enclosed terraced garden. A stable door opens onto a patio area with garden furniture and barbecue.

There is also a cloakroom/utility room with washer/dryer and Belfast sink.

The sitting room is dominated by a wealth of exposed beams and the fantastic original ‘working’ inglenook fireplace. There is a huge Knoll sofa, which allows you to curl up and relax in front of the fire. The room is carefully furnished with antiques, Persian textiles and carpets on a Suffolk brick floor. Discreetly concealed is a LCD TV, DVD played and CD stereo.

Off from the sitting room is a small library tucked under the stairs.

You ascend the narrow winding staircase into a medieval vaulted ceiling bedchamber with a massive arched tie beam and fine octagonal crown post. (Uniquely this impressive crown post has been re-used from an earlier building of the mid 14th century). Part the drapes at the top of the stairs and you enter a romantic bedroom of medieval splendour. Furnished with a fine antique bed and French armoire the room is decorated with lime wash of the original colour and sumptuous fabrics.

Through oak panelling you enter a traditional bathroom containing rolled top slipper bath with shower attachment, loo, basin and heated towel rail all under a vaulted-tented ceiling.

Cobblers Cottage is truly a unique place to spend time and relax.

Pets are welcome (by arrangement) and all prices include Vat, towels, linen, heating, and a generous ‘Proper English Breakfast’ Welcome Pack. Bikes are freely available and the South Suffolk Cycle Route runs past the house.

Cobblers Cottage is a complete little home and facilities include modern heating, TV, DVD, CD, books, games, guides, our special Local Information folder and a fully equipped kitchen including modern cooking range, microwave, washing machine and dryer –there are basics like sugar, fresh coffee, etc etc always stocked.
